Playing and learning are so closely related that they often can’t be distinguished at all. But let’s be realistic: when talking about educational toys, more often than not we refer to learning systems for our children. Especially in the last decade or two, an astonishing number of educational “tools” have been developed for children of all ages, and even for grown-ups. The latter may or may not be intentional, but a fact is that many of the more clever educational or learning systems, like those dealing with science and nature, are enthusiasticaly played with by the parents of the child for whom the gift was originaly intended!

This will not so soon happen with educational toys for very young children, like alphabet blocks or ABC blocks. And then there’s the enormous range of educational games/toys for all ages in-between! Looking back on my own youth in the 1940’s and 1950’s I am truly amazed by all the educational tools that are available now! On the other hand I believe that our childrens own development of their creativity suffers from those pre-chewed and bite-sized chunks. I used to be quite happy with the proverbial cigar box from my granddad, from which I created houses, factories and garages - the box that is, not my granddad.

So it’s all a matter of relativity, I think. Some things are lost, others are gained. But at least, to the considerable relief of often desperate parents, buying educational games and toys is now easier than it was ever before. Generally speaking, this is an improvement.

Last month I began waking with a wet brow and wet sheets. My girlfriends warned me I would soon need to persevere the fun of menopause night sweats but I really expected to first experience them as distinct hot flashes. And I did not really assume they would occur as night sweats first.

Beef bi-products - Liver or tongues anyone? Nah, I didn’t think so. There are many people who like to fry up a batch now and again. If the grease isn’t bad enough, then eat some bi-products to add more to your already high cholesterol.

Canned crustaceans? - Uhm you mean as in shrimp and fish? I don’t think so. There are many that you think in your mind are very good for you. So since they are ‘good’ for you, you decide to go ahead and fry them; making them better? I sincerely doubt it. They are still high in cholesterol.

Fast foods - Well, this is definitely a no-brainer (to say the least). Uhm, maybe or maybe not, who knows. Maybe you didn’t know that those morning biscuits and sausage were loaded with all the fattening grease? Perhaps you don’t think about it while driving down the road on your way to work? Who knows, but now you do.

Pork anyone? - Did you know that pork is high in fat and cholesterol already. They are some of the nastiest animals and eat just about anything. They are full of cholesterol and sadly enough, many people fry them in grease.

There are many types of food that are loaded with cholesterol. We can choose to be knowledgeable in what we do or we can continue feeding our bodies junk. The choice is yours!

More important than interior trimmings are the front seats. Thankfully, Cadillac saw fit to offer the CTS-V with a proper pair of thrones. Optional 14-way adjustable Recaros are available at a price ($3,400), and they’re worth every penny. The side bolsters can be adjusted to fit the driver’s torso to a “T”, allowing the person manning the helm to comfortably take advantage of the V’s thoroughly revised Cadillac CTS suspension. And if that price still seems too steep, it’s made slightly more bearable with the inclusion of Alcantara trim coating the center of the seats, shift knob and steering wheel. Once your butt is situated in the grippy Recaro, it’s time to fire up the engine and unleash the beast. Of course, this being a Cadillac and not a Corvette, it doesn’t make as much noise as its Bowtie’d counterpart. In fact, the CTS-V sounds downright subdued – but there’s no mistaking it for a Lexus. Like other great V8s, its slightly lumpy at idle, but given that the engine is the heart of the CTS-V, it’s more like a pulse and less like a ’60s muscle car on the verge of vapor lock.

With our tester’s 6L90 automatic transmission in Drive, a gentle squeeze of the throttle sets the CTS suspension smoothly into motion. Given the V’s capabilities, you’d expect the sedan to feel high-strung and truculent at slow speeds. It’s anything but. Measured application of the throttle results in perfectly linear acceleration – and when you finally hammer the go-pedal, all that twist plants your backside into the seat unlike any other sedan on the market. Push the LSA harder and the exhaust note becomes even more aggressive, although it never grates. It simply responds, “Sure, I’m more powerful than some supercars, but I’m also a grown up.”
